Banish Dry Winter Skin

As soon as the first gust of cold air sweeps through your town, you know its the start of a cold winter. As soon as you turn up the heat, you skin starts to dry out.
1. Moisturize.

Moisture is the key.
Look for lotions containing "humectants," which are a class of substances(like glycerin, sorbitol, and alpha-hydroxy acids) that attract moisture to your skin.
Moisturize with a heavy moisturizers, but make sure it doesn't clog your pores. Then, it'll create more problems than it will fix.

2. Sunscreen.

The sunscreen you know is that thick, oily, chemically smelly glob of lotion you smother on you face before you hit the beach. Actually, you should wear sunscreen everyday, because the UVA sun rays may 'tan' you skin, but it also breaks down collagen which causes your skin to age faster.
I'd recommend using a daily moisturizer with SPF. This way it combines steps 1 and 2 together. The glare of snow is actually more harmful to your skin than the hot sun on a summer's day.

3. Don't leave out your hands.

The skin on your hands is so thin, and contains very few oil glands, making it more susceptible to dry itching irritation and chapping. Wear gloves, when outside, and moisturize with a thick hand cream or body butter.

4.Humidify

Bring out you ol' humidifier, or buy one. They add moisture to your skin during the night, and day. Heaters make your air dry, but Humidifiers replenish some of that moisture to help prevent dryness.

5. Don't take super long hot baths or showers.

Cold showers are good for your hair and your skin.
Hair: It seals the shaft of your hair to lock in moisture and prevent frizz.
Skin: its also locks in moisture instead of drawing it out.
Hot showers can strip the natural oils from your hair and skin, leaving you with dry skin, and brittle hair. If you can't bear it, take short warm showers and finish off with a splash of cold water.

6. Drink plentiful

Water can help increase moisture of the skin and will also cleanse and detoxify your body. I recommend 8 glasses a day, but even i can't handle that. So stick with 5, or 6.

7. flaky skin? Gentle scrub.

If your hands, feet, or face is dry, try gently rubbing them with a little homemade scrub.

Mix sugar with olive oil and honey, and gently scrub your hands and feet. For your face: be especially gentle to prevent irritation. Wash off and moisturize- always!
Sugar contains Alpha-Hydroxy-Acids, Honey is a natural anti-oxidant and purges dirt from pores, and Olive oil a natural moisturizer- which WONT clog pores-PROMISE!
